United Kingdom becomes the world biggest coronavirus vaccine donor £210,000,000

Boris Johnson following a virtual G20 Summit today, raised the total amount of UK aid spent fighting coronavirus to £540 million.

The Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), which is supporting the development of vaccines that will be available throughout the world, said it requires $2 billion (£1.65) additional funding from international governments to develop the crucial vaccine.

Global health experts have identified the weakness of developing countries’ healthcare systems as one of the biggest risks to the global spread of the virus.

A ‘second wave’ of the pandemic in poorer countries could impact those who are only just recovering and undermine current efforts to stop the spread of the disease, the government said.
